World Series Final Game Captures 51 Million Viewers In the US, Canada and Japan Markets.

The thrilling 11-inning matchup that saw the Dodgers defeat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 attracted a total over 50 million watchers across the United States, Canadian, and Japanese markets. MLB announced this marks the highest-rated Fall Classic Game 7 after the 1991 contest featuring the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Ratings Breakdown

The Saturday epic game secured 27.33M viewers on Fox Sports channels, Fox Deportes and Fox’s streaming platforms. Per ratings data, it was the second highest-rated program of the week.

It also is the top-rated Fall Classic game after the 2017 edition Game 7 between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew 29.07 million. This marks a 16% improvement over the previous Game 7 between the Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19 million viewers.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 placed fourth, the fourth game was seventh, Game 5 was 8th, and the third game landed in 13th place.

International Viewership Figures

In Canada, the game drew 11.6 million watchers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports channel. This made it the highest-rated English-language program in Canada since the 2010 edition Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding game began at 9 PM in the local time zone, it averaged 12 million viewers. This came after the previous Friday’s sixth game – in which Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yamamoto gave up one run in six innings – averaged 13.1 million spectators, making it the most-watched World Series game on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Series Averages and Trends

The entire seven-game series recorded over 15.7 million audience members on the Fox network, a 2% rise from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This represents the first time after 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has recorded audience growth for two straight years.

Counting the Game 1 broadcast on the Univision network, the complete American viewership reached 16.1M. The total Fall Classic viewership in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1M in Canada.

The complete MLB Postseason on Fox, FS1 and FS2 averaged 8.09M watchers, an eight percent rise over the previous year and Fox’s best playoff ratings after 2017.

MLB stated that the Fall Classic was broadcast in over 200 countries and territories by forty-four broadcasting partners in 16 various tongues.
